The Return Mini is a reduction in the return to approx. 86%, more precisely by a factor of 6/7. While the length of the leading edge on the sail is 140cm on the return, it is only 120cm long on the Mini. This means that a 125cm long 5mm Exel rod can be used as a leading edge rod. The cross spreader can also be realized with such a rod at 115cm. A fourth 125cm rod is then required for the upper cross struts and the keel. This rod set results in a fairly light frame that fits well with the size of the kite. The total weight of the finished kite, including 12g tail weight, is approximately 200g. The wingspan is about 190cm.
The result is a small, fully tricky kite that can be built with relatively little material. Together with the fairly simple sail design, this is a manageable project for a first attempt at construction. A simple project for experienced DIYers.
Due to its size, the kite only develops moderate pulling forces. The steering distances are naturally quite short. On the straights you can clearly hear a purring of the trailing edge with increasing wind, which slows it down a little and increases the precision, if one can speak of precision with this kite. Thanks to the rear weight, he has enough (almost too much) momentum in the tricks. “Experts” will therefore regard it as a little sling.Birger Garbe

Notes
- The keel weight is a threaded sleeve M6 30mm (25mm would be enough!). “Stopped” with some tape.
- A special feature is the cross, it is a component from HQ that is used in their small, inexpensive models. It offers the advantage that an undivided lower spreader is used. Alternatives would be an Level One rotating centre cross, or an alpha kite type knotted cross.
- The size of the stencil sheet is based on the 80cmx100cm cardboard that I use for this, on which I print the stencil using spray adhesive (tip: 3M Display Mount).
